Grand Cape Mount Senator Raises Alarm Over Wildlife Invasion Hindering Farming

Grand Cape Mount county Senator Darbah Varpilah of has raised serious concerns over the ongoing invasion of wildlife, particularly elephants, which are destroying crops and disrupting farming activities in parts of the county.

In a communication addressed to Senate Pro-Tempore Nyongblee Karngar Lawrence on Tuesday, Senator Varpilah highlighted the severity of the issue. "Elephants' invasion in Golakonneh District is seriously undermining farming activities in the area," Varpilah stated.

He emphasized that these invasions are not isolated incidents but have been occurring repeatedly over the years.

The Grand Cape Mount county Senator further noted that the elephants have caused significant damage to towns and villages, destroying water sources and food supplies.

"There have been repeated increases in elephants' invasion in towns and villages, damaging water sources and food supplies," he explained.

Senator Varpilah at the same time stressed the urgent need for government intervention, pointing out that the residents of the affected areas rely heavily on subsistence farming and gardening for their livelihoods.

"Residents of the area are fully dependent on subsistence farming and gardening for their income. The government needs to quickly intervene to handle the situation," he urged.

In response to Senator Varpilah's communication, the Senate Plenary has received the letter and forwarded it to the Senate Committee on Agriculture for investigation. The committee is expected to report back within a week.
