House of Representatives Mandates Several Committees to Scrutinize Bill Seeking Township Status for Soul Clinic Community

Monrovia, Liberia: The Plenary of the House of Representatives has mandated its Committees on Internal Affairs, Good Governance, and Judiciary to review and report on a proposed bill seeking to grant Township status to the Soul Clinic Community located in Montserrado County Electoral District #4.

The decision was reached during the House’s regular session on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, following the submission of the bill by Representative Michael Thomas of District #4.

In his submission, Representative Thomas cited the growing population and infrastructural development within Soul Clinic as justification for the proposed township status.

According to the lawmaker, Soul Clinic is home to over 45,000 residents and spans an area ranging from 5 to 50 square kilometers, depending on population density.

He stressed that the area comprises more than 15 churches, approximately two mosques, and is predominantly Christian, with an estimated 90% of the population identifying with the Christian faith.

Additionally, the community hosts over 20 public and private schools, one university, more than five vocational training institutions, over 10 clinics, one police depot, and five active marketplaces. It also benefits from access to electricity and clean water.

Representative Thomas called on his colleagues to support the enactment of the bill, which seeks to establish Soul Clinic as a body politic and corporate under the name and style of the "Township of Soul Clinic," located in District #4, Montserrado County.

Following deliberations, the Plenary of the House of Representatives mandated the relevant committees to conduct a thorough review and provide a comprehensive report within two weeks for further legislative consideration.
