Liberia to Host 32nd Board of Governors Meeting of Regional Maritime University
Liberia, through the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), will host the 32nd Board of Governors (BoG) meeting of the Regional Maritime University (RMU) from November 5 to 8, 2024, in Monrovia.
This event will bring together key officials from the five founding member states Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone—to discuss the future and development of the West African maritime industry.
The gathering will commence with a Committee of Experts meeting from November 5 to 7, 2024, where maritime professionals will deliberate on key industry issues, institutional policies, and strategies to improve the operational efficiency of the RMU.
The main event, the official opening ceremony and Board of Governors' Meeting, will be chaired by Sierra Leone’s Minister of Transport and Aviation, Mr. Alhaji Fanday Turay, who currently serves as the Chancellor and Board Chairman of the RMU.
The Board of Governors, the highest policy-making body of the RMU, consists of Ministers and heads of Maritime bodies from the five member states.
The meeting provides a platform for officials to assess ongoing initiatives, review policies, and set the strategic direction for the future of the RMU.
The RMU, established on May 26, 1983, aims to promote regional cooperation in the maritime industry, with a strong emphasis on training and capacity-building. Through collaboration among its member states, the university plays a key role in ensuring the sustainable growth and competitiveness of the maritime sector in West Africa.
Liberia’s hosting of the 2024 Board of Governors meeting underscores the nation’s commitment to regional maritime cooperation and its leadership role in the sector.
The event offers Liberia the opportunity to showcase its efforts in advancing maritime development and to strengthen the RMU’s mission of supporting industry growth.
LiMA has been instrumental in advancing Liberia’s maritime interests both locally and internationally. The upcoming RMU BoG meeting is expected to elevate Liberia’s status as a key player in West African maritime affairs.
