Liberia’s Civil Service Agency Blocks Salaries of Non-Compliant Officials Under President Boakai’s Asset Declaration Order

Monrovia, Liberia: The Civil Service Agency (CSA) of Liberia has announced immediate measures to enforce President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Sr.’s mandate on asset declaration, targeting suspended government officials who have failed to comply with the requirement. In a circular memorandum issued Wednesday, CSA Director General Josiah F. Jockai warned that non-compliant officials will face salary suspensions for February 2025 until they adhere to the directive.

The memorandum, addressed to all Government of Liberia (GOL) spending entities, emphasized that the move aims to uphold accountability and public trust in governance. “This measure is intended to ensure that all officials of government adhere to the necessary regulations and maintain the trust placed in us by the public,” Jockai stated.

President Boakai’s administration has prioritized transparency since taking office, with asset declaration serving as a cornerstone of his anti-corruption agenda. The CSA’s latest action underscores the government’s resolve to penalize officials who disregard statutory obligations. According to the memo, salary blocks will remain in effect “until the necessary compliance is achieved,” affecting officials already under suspension for prior failures to declare their assets.

The CSA urged heads of GOL entities to cooperate with the directive, reiterating its commitment to “ensuring merit and efficiency in the public service.” The agency also encouraged ongoing collaboration with government bodies to uphold the interests of Liberia and its citizens.

This crackdown marks one of the strongest enforcements of Liberia’s asset declaration laws in recent years, signaling the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on non-compliance.
