Morlu Slams Boakai: ‘Coup Will Fail, Liberia Belongs to the People

Monrovia, Liberia: Jefferson Tamba Morlu has launched a blistering critique of President Joseph Boakai, accusing him of attempting an unconstitutional power grab and undermining Liberia’s democratic institutions.
In a strongly worded statement, Morlu condemned what he described as Boakai’s “defiance of the Supreme Court” and use of “bribery to impose a puppet and regime Speaker,” declaring such actions as “illegal, void, and rejected.”
“Liberia belongs to the people, not gangsters,” Morlu declared, calling on citizens to rise peacefully on July 17th in defense of democracy and the rule of law.
He warned that the President’s actions show a collapse in judgment, likening Boakai’s leadership to that of “an erratic, dangerous child,” and cautioning that “when a president rules like a child with fire, the country risks burning.”
Morlu’s remarks add to growing political tension amid accusations of constitutional violations and increasing calls for public resistance.
