U.S. Embassy Urges Peaceful Resolution Amid Capitol Hill Situation

The United States Embassy in Liberia has expressed its concern over the ongoing situation on Capitol Hill, emphasizing the importance of peaceful and transparent political processes.  

In a statement released today, the Embassy reiterated its commitment to supporting Liberia's democratic principles, urging all parties involved to respect the rule of law.  

“We want to see Liberia’s political processes play out peacefully and with respect for the rule of law. Liberians expect their leaders to uphold democracy and its practices, including open and transparent political processes and peaceful debate,” the statement read.  

The Embassy called for unity among leaders and discouraged any form of violence, stressing that such actions serve no one’s interest.  

“Violence is never the answer. It is important that leaders show unity. We strongly urge both sides to reach a compromise so the important work of the legislature can continue for the Liberian people.”  

Acknowledging the challenges of maintaining a democracy, the Embassy highlighted the need for persistence and peaceful engagement.  

“Maintaining a democracy is never easy, and there will certainly be tough times. The key is learning from the missteps and remaining steadfast in knowing there is no place nor benefit to resorting to violence. We remain confident that whatever differences political parties and individual politicians may have, they can come together to address them through direct and peaceful engagement for the good of the nation.”  

The U.S. Embassy’s call comes at a crucial time as Liberia navigates political challenges, underscoring the need for collaboration and peaceful resolution for the benefit of the Liberian people.
