LTA Signs Order to Stabilize Telecom Sector

The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has announced new measures aimed at stabilizing the telecommunications sector and enhancing the quality of service across the country.

In an official statement, the LTA revealed that its Acting Board has amended portions of the 2019 Price Floor Order to adjust voice and data minimum charges, reflecting current market conditions. Under the revised regulations, users can expect an average of approximately 76 voice minutes per dollar and 1.3 megabytes of data per dollar.

The regulatory intervention comes in response to ongoing price wars among service providers, who offered packages significantly below market rates. This practice led to network congestion, a decline in service quality, and revenue losses.

LTA Public Affairs Director stated that the new measures will enhance the telecommunications landscape, ensuring a balance between competitive pricing and improved service delivery.

“These adjustments are designed to foster a healthier telecommunications market, one that benefits both consumers and service providers,” the Public Affairs Director explained.

Service providers are now required to develop marketing strategies that comply with the new framework, which will take effect on December 9, 2024.

The LTA’s intervention marks a great step toward resolving long-standing issues in Liberia’s telecom sector while prioritizing better service for consumers nationwide.
