Within a span of 24 hours after President Joseph Nyuma Boakai inaugurated the "Love a Child Orphanage," a wave of controversy has emerged regarding its construction and ownership. Initially attributed to First Lady Kartumo Boakai, it is now alleged that the project was implemented during former President George Weah's administration by former First Lady Clar M Weah.

Former President George Weah's presidential aide, Sekou Kalasco, took to social media to express dissatisfaction, claiming that First Lady Kartumo Boakai falsely claimed credit for the orphanage's construction. Kalasco provided documents suggesting that the project was awarded to BMC Construction Company during Clar M Weah's tenure, with an initial payment of $74,629 USD.

Previous facility that got burned down in 2020

The orphanage was tragically ravaged by fire in 2020, displacing 23 children and their caregivers and leaving a community in need of support. Since then, they have found temporary shelter in the school's daycare section, longing for a return to normalcy.

Taking office, the reconstruction of this orphanage became a personal mission. With frequent visits and unwavering dedication, efforts culminated in the unveiling of a new facility featuring 8 bedrooms, self-contained units, offices, living spaces, a kitchen, and storage, capable of accommodating 32 children and 7 caregivers.

Beyond its physical attributes, this rebuilt orphanage symbolizes renewed hope and a steadfast commitment to the welfare of vulnerable children. It promises to provide a nurturing environment where children and caregivers can thrive, supported by the generosity of donors and the steadfast commitment of the community.

First Lady Kartumo Boakai extended thanks to God Almighty for guidance and blessings throughout this journey, as well as to the government of Liberia and generous donors whose contributions have transformed despair into hope.
