Church Leader Reverend James Doe Toe Urges Liberian Christians: Faith Shouldn’t Be Optional Amidst Job Pressures”

The senior pastor of the Blessed Hope Assembly of God Church has expressed concern regarding the dedication of Liberian Christians to their faith, suggesting that they prioritize their jobs over their commitment to Christianity, often worshiping with insincere intentions.

In an interview with three leading Liberian journalists, Reverend James Doe Toe, who heads the Blessed Hope Assembly of God Church, emphasized that Christianity shouldn’t be regarded as a seasonal or optional pursuit; rather, it should be a mandatory aspect of life.

Reverend Doe, in a cordial manner, highlighted the prevailing hardship in the country, noting that the fear of losing one’s job has led many to prioritize their professional commitments over putting God first. Drawing comparisons with Christians in countries like Nigeria and Ghana, he noted their unwavering devotion to God, even in the face of job-related challenges, resulting in their reputation as substantial contributors within their respective churches.

Addressing the issue of how Liberian Christians celebrate Christmas, Reverend Doe expressed his dismay at witnessing the occasion being observed in a manner contradictory to Christian principles. He attributed this discrepancy to a deviation from the foundational Christian values upon which Liberia was built, emphasizing that many Liberians fail to embody the true essence of Christianity as depicted in the Bible, placing an additional burden on the few faithful adherents.

Reverend Doe stressed the importance of continuous teaching and preaching to steer Liberian Christians away from celebrating Christmas in a manner disconnected from its original significance, urging them not to be swayed by worldly distractions.

Highlighting the growth of his church, Reverend Toe enumerated various initiatives undertaken over the years, such as supporting bereaved families, aiding fire-affected households, and facilitating education for underprivileged children. He portrayed these endeavors as evangelistic strategies aimed at winning souls for Christ.

Wherever a church is, the church should serve as a light to that entire community people should be there to help people who are not even affiliating through regular worship services and through that, people will be encouraged to join or be a member” Rev Toe said.

He emphasized the church’s role as a beacon of light within the community, advocating for active involvement in assisting not only regular worshippers but also those unaffiliated with formal services, with the hope of inspiring them to join or become members.

Discussing the future vision for the Blessed Hope Assembly of God Church over the next five years, Reverend Toe revealed plans for increased investment in evangelism. He stressed the church’s pursuit of a holistic ministry, combining spiritual and practical aspects.

Founded in 1987 by William Hilongar, the Blessed Hope Assembly of God Church expanded under the leadership of Reverend Toe on April 6, 2008.

He recalled the church’s humble beginnings in a small, dilapidated worship center, highlighting its subsequent growth and impact on society. Reverend Toe encouraged other pastors and church leaders to similarly empower their congregations to make a meaningful impact in their communities.
