Phil Foden and Khadija Bunny Crowned FWA Footballers of the Year
Phil Foden and Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw has been Crowned Football Writers' Association's Footballer of the Year for 2023/24 Season
Manchester City's Phil Foden and Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw have emerged victorious, claiming the coveted Football Writers' Association's Footballer of the Year awards for the 2023/24 season, marking a double triumph for the club.
This achievement echoes a previous milestone set by Manchester City in 2019 when Raheem Sterling and Nikita Parris clinched both the men's and women's awards. Foden's win, securing an impressive 42 percent of the members' votes, follows in the footsteps of his teammates Ruben Dias in 2021 and Erling Haaland in 2023.
The 23-year-old Foden has been a standout performer throughout the season, showcasing his prowess with 16 Premier League goals and seven assists, along with notable contributions in the Champions League and FA Cup. With Manchester City chasing their fifth successive Premier League title and eyeing the FA Cup final against Manchester United on May 25th, Foden's impact has been pivotal.
Meanwhile, Shaw's dominance in the women's category is undeniable, securing a staggering 80 percent of the votes—a record-breaking achievement. Her remarkable tally of 21 goals and three assists in just 18 Women's Super League (WSL) games has propelled Manchester City to the brink of their first league title since 2016. Despite being sidelined due to a foot injury in the latter part of the season, Shaw's contributions have been instrumental in Manchester City's league campaign.
With Manchester City's men's and women's teams poised for success both domestically and in European competitions, the recognition of Foden and Shaw as Football Writers' Association's Footballer of the Year underscores the club's prowess and dominance in the footballing world.
