LNP Releases Alarming Road Traffic Accident Report for September 2024

The Liberia National Police (LNP) Public Safety Division has released its road traffic accident report for September 2024, revealing a troubling toll of 23 fatalities and numerous injuries from 157 recorded accidents.
According to the report, of the 23 fatalities, 20 were male and 3 female, including 8 drivers, 7 passengers, and 8 pedestrians. Additionally, 144 individuals were injured, comprising 133 males and 11 females. Among the injured were 80 drivers, 52 passengers, and 12 pedestrians.
The report also highlighted significant vehicular damage, with 249 vehicles involved in accidents. Of those, 45 vehicles sustained severe damage.
The LNP noted that legal action has been initiated in some cases: 6 cases have been forwarded to court, 61 cases were withdrawn, and 90 remain under investigation.
In response to the concerning figures, the LNP renewed its call for all road users to strictly adhere to Liberia’s Vehicle and Traffic Laws to reduce accidents and improve public safety.
"The Liberia National Police remains dedicated to protecting lives and property. We urge drivers, passengers, and pedestrians to exercise caution and follow traffic regulations," the LNP’s statement emphasized.
The police also encouraged the public to stay vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to enhance road safety across the country.
