Monrovia, Liberia: The Senate Committee on National Defense Intelligence and Veteran Affairs has concluded a crucial meeting with authorities from the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) following the recent violent clash between the two security apparatuses.

Speaking to legislative reporters’ minutes after the meeting, Lofa County Senator Momo Cyrus of Lofa County informed journalists that institutions expressed regret over the unfortunate incident and pledged their commitment to strengthening cooperation to prevent future occurrences of the unfortunate incident.

As part of the resolution, Senator Cyrus disclosed that the AFL has agreed to collaborate with the LNP by deploying some of its personnel at checkpoints to assist in enforcing motorcycle regulations.

The at the SD Cooper Road Junction, which disrupted normal activities on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, has attracted the attention of the Senate Committee on Defense, Security, and Intelligence.

The altercation, which created panic among residents and commuters, has since become a major concern for national security stakeholders.

Lofa County Senator Momo Cyrus, Chair of the Senate National Defense, Intelligence, and Veteran Affairs, described the incident as unfortunate and called for calm.

Speaking earlier on the Thursday, February 27, 2025 edition of the Super Morning Show on state radio before the meeting, Senator Momo had assured the public that he would personally reach out to the leadership of both security agencies to address the situation.

Senator Snowe underscored the need for professionalism, discipline, and collaboration between the police and the military, urging security personnel to focus on their shared responsibility of protecting the Liberian people.

According to him, security agencies must work together rather than engage in disputes that could weaken public trust.

Senator Cyrus had earlier commended the AFL for swiftly issuing an apology to the LNP.

He noted that this action demonstrated a commitment to professionalism and conflict resolution while urging the leadership of both institutions to take steps in preventing future occurrences by reinforcing discipline among their ranks and ensuring that misunderstandings are resolved through proper channels.

The Senator also clarified that the altercation was not a reflection of an institutional rivalry between the AFL and the LNP but rather a misunderstanding involving a few individuals from both sides.

He reassured the public that the matter would be handled appropriately and that the actions of a few should not define the integrity and professionalism of either institution.

The Lofa County at the same time warned against the spread of misinformation that could escalate tensions or create unnecessary fear among citizens.

As chair of the Senate Committee on National Defense, Intelligence, and Veteran Affairs, Senator Cyrus pledged to continue monitoring the situation closely.
