President Boakai Launches Groundbreaking e-GP System to Revolutionize Public Procurement

Congo Town, Liberia – In a major step towards greater transparency and accountability in public governance, the Government of Liberia has officially launched the country’s first-ever online procurement platform. This milestone aims to strengthen the efficiency of public procurement processes while combating corruption that has historically undermined the nation’s socio-economic development.

The e-GP system, which is now live, was unveiled in a formal ceremony attended by government officials, development partners, and stakeholders in the public procurement sector. The platform is designed to improve the management of government contracts and ensure fairer, more competitive bidding processes for businesses seeking to engage with the government.

In his address during the launch, President Joseph Nyumah Boakai expressed his strong commitment to fighting corruption and upholding public financial integrity. “This e-GP system is not just a technological innovation; it is a decisive move in our ongoing battle against corruption, a persistent challenge that has undermined our nation’s progress for decades,” said President Boakai.

The launch of the e-GP system represents a significant achievement in Liberia’s public procurement reform agenda. It is expected to simplify procurement procedures for businesses and government entities alike, making it easier for companies to bid for government contracts and for government institutions to manage procurement processes. Already, over 200 businesses have enrolled in the system, benefiting from enhanced access to government tender opportunities.

The government’s partnership with international organizations such as the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB) has been crucial in the successful development and deployment of the e-GP system. These partnerships have helped the government modernize procurement processes and increase transparency, ultimately improving Liberia’s governance structure.

“This new platform is part of our broader ambition to create a competitive environment for private sector growth, while ensuring that public procurement is carried out in an open and accountable manner,” President Boakai added.

The e-GP system is expected to eliminate the need for businesses to physically visit ministries and agencies for procurement purposes, streamlining the bidding process and reducing opportunities for fraud or inefficiency. With the system now operational across six government entities, it is set to gradually expand to all procurement bodies in Liberia.

President Boakai called on all government institutions to fully adopt the e-GP system and integrate it into their procurement processes. “By doing so, we will ensure that we achieve the maximum benefits from this platform and continue our commitment to Think Liberia, Love Liberia, and Build Liberia,” he said.

As Liberia continues to make strides in governance reforms, the successful launch of the e-GP system marks a pivotal moment in the country’s journey towards greater transparency, efficiency, and national prosperity.
