Monrovia Liberia : The Director General of the National Broadcaster Eugene Fagohn has taken decisive action by dismissing the Workers’ Union President, Joseph Sayon following allegations deemed false and defamatory.

The LBS dissmissed workers union president Sayon recently leveled several allegations against Director Fahngon sparking heated demand within the entity, which prompted the Direction's action.

In the fight for their prevailing changes, the union through the release had given Fahngon a 72-hour ultimatum to address the growing dissatisfaction among employees or face the prospect of a no-confidence vote.

Addressing a press release on Thursday January 23 2025 at the entity's compound in paynesville, Director Fagohn described the allegations made by the workers Union President as “baseless fabrications” aimed at undermining the integrity of the national media station’s leadership.

According to the Director General of the LBS, the union leader accused him of mismanaging funds by doubling his weekly allowance from $750 to $1,500, alleging that he simultaneously stripped employees of basic benefits and as far as suspending workers allowances.

The Union at the same time accused the head of the LBS of ramping up the use of threats, intimidation, and arbitrary firings.  and engaging in unethical practices, claims which a subsequent internal investigation found to be entirely unsubstantiated.

This institution thrives on transparency and accountability,” said Director Fahngon in the statement. “It is unfortunate that Joseph Sayon chose to weaponize falsehoods intended to terminate my work".

The decision to dismiss Sayon comes after few days of escalating tensions between the management and the union leadership which were made public during a press briefing organized on January 16 2025.

An investigation, conducted by the authority, concluded that there was no evidence to support the claims made by the union president. Instead, the committee’s findings revealed that Mr. Sayon had failed to adhere to proper grievance procedures, opting instead to air unfounded accusations in a public forum.

Director fahgon argued that Jospeh Sayon actions jeopardized the credibility of the union.

We support union leadership, but it must be grounded in truth and professionalism,” said the LBS boss Eugene Fahgon.

The Director General has assured the public and staff that the dismissal does not reflect an attack on any member of the union but rather a commitment to preserving the organization’s integrity.

As a public institution, we must ensure that our actions are guided by facts, not falsehoods,” Mr. Fahngon stated.

This development has sparked broader conversations about the role of union leaders in safeguarding workers’ rights while maintaining ethical standards in their advocacy.
