The Lower House Summons Transport Ministry, Airport Authority to Address Concerns over Aviation Safety Following an Emergency Landing of ASKY Airlines that has Sparked National Anxiety

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: The House of Representatives has summoned officials from the Ministry of Transport and the Liberia Airport Authority to appear before its Plenary next Tuesday, July 8, 2025, amid rising concerns about aviation’s safety and the protection of air passengers.

The decision follows a formal communication from Representative Emmanuel Dahn, of Montserrado County District #7, in the wake of a terrifying emergency landing involving an ASKY Airlines flight from Accra to Monrovia.

The aircraft was diverted to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, due to unspecified technical issues, prompting fears of a near-tragic incident.

The event has triggered an outpouring of concern across Liberia, with shaken passengers sharing their experiences on various social media platforms.

According to multiple accounts, several checked luggage were left behind without explanation, while passengers criticized the airline’s handling of baggage policies and communication failures.

“Lives are lost around the world due to poor handling of travel protocols,” Representative Dahn stated, adding, “We must act now to prevent additional futuristic potential dangers”.

Representative Dahn labeled the incident a life-threatening event and pressed for immediate accountability and improvements to Liberia’s oversight of air travel operations, especially foreign carriers.

The invited agencies are expected to provide clarity on several pressing issues regarding the exact circumstances surrounding the ASKY flight’s emergency landing, current safety measures for commercial flights in Liberian airspace, protocols in place for handling passenger rights and emergencies, and baggage handling policies, including steps to prevent future mismanagement.

The upcoming hearing is expected to attract widespread media coverage and public attention, as pressure mounts for more stringent regulation of aviation activities in Liberia.
