Women’s Legislative Caucus Demand Justice; Condemns Alleged Rape and Murder of Liberian-Canadian Citizen

Monrovia, Liberia: The Women’s Legislative Caucus of Liberia’s 55th Legislature has issued a powerful statement denouncing the alleged rape and brutal murder of Madam Siannah Goe Ricks, a Liberian-Canadian citizens who recently returned from Canada.
The tragic crime is reported to have occurred in her newly built home in Ben Town Community along the Marshall in Margibi County.
Representative Ellen Attoh‑Wreh, Chairperson of the WLCL, expressed deep sorrow and outrage on behalf of the Caucus.
“It is both heartbreaking and unacceptable that a woman returning to serve her homeland would fall victim to such inhumane violence,” Representative Attoh-Wreh said, extending heartfelt condolences to the deceased's grieving family members.
In a formal declaration released on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the Caucus called on the Liberia National Police (LNP) and other relevant authorities to launch a swift, transparent, and impartial investigation.
“Justice must be served—not only to bring closure to the family but also to reaffirm Liberia’s commitment to safeguarding the lives, rights, and dignity of all women and girls,” the Chairlady of the Women’s Legislative Caucus added.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of Liberia’s urgent need to intensify its fight against sexual and gender-based violence, ensure accountability for perpetrators, and build safer environments, especially within homes and communities.
The WLCL reaffirmed its dedication to collaborating with government agencies, civil society, and international partners—including UN Women, the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia, Sweden, the UN in Liberia, and the Liberian Senate—to ensure all women live free from fear.
Key demands from the Caucus include an immediate and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The Women’s Caucus seeks prosecution of anyone responsible, the reinforcement of legislative and community efforts to protect women, and a greater national investment in prevention, support services, and security at the local level.
