Dolo Town Health Center: Burned Down in February, Now Rebuilt on Promises and Politics”

Margibi County, Liberia: The Dolo Town Comprehensive Health Center Rehabilitation Committee has issued its first public update, shedding light on the progress made under its leadership. The committee, consisting of local community members, representatives from the Dolo Town Comprehensive Health Center, the Unification City Mayor’s Office, county leadership, and the media, was established to oversee the rebuilding of the health center, which was heavily damaged by a fire in February this year.

During a recent appearance on a community radio in the county, Committee Secretary General Samuel King Jr. highlighted the contributions made by several initial donors. These include the Chinese Embassy, Fight Information Regions (FIR), and the office of Senator Nathaniel McGill. King also acknowledged other individuals and organizations that have pledged their support to ensure the success of the project.

The office of Senator Nathaniel McGill has pledged 10,000 blocks for the project, with 4,000 already delivered. The Chinese Embassy has contributed a cheque of US$3,000, and FIR has donated US$1,000 in cash,” said King.

He also mentioned that additional contributions from various individuals and institutions are expected in the coming days.

The committee is committed to working closely with local leaders and relevant authorities to ensure the swift and efficient reconstruction of the health center, which plays a vital role in serving the residents of District 2 in Lower Margibi County.

When asked about the project's timeline, King revealed that the bidding process for contractors is currently underway and is expected to conclude shortly. This process is designed to ensure transparency and allow the selection of a qualified contractor to carry out the reconstruction work.

"The bidding process is ongoing, and we are prioritizing transparency in awarding the contract to a capable company that can handle the project efficiently. Bidders must submit all necessary documentation and demonstrate their ability to finance the project," King explained.
