Maher Public School In Bomi Faces Closure Due to Teacher Shortage

Senjeh District, Bomi County: Maher Public School is at risk of shutting down because of a serious lack of teachers, according to the town chief of Maher.
In an interview with Rural Journalist from a a local radio station Puma, Chief Kessale shared that the school has been operating with only one volunteer teacher—a woman who has worked without pay for over two years. He said this has made it difficult for children in Maher and nearby communities to get a proper education.
Due to the ongoing teacher shortage, the Ministry of Education recently downgraded Maher Public School from grade six to grade three. This change affects hundreds of students who now have fewer opportunities for education close to home.
Many families are now being forced to seek other schools, but most of them are either too far away or too expensive.
Chief Kessale is calling on the Government of Liberia, especially the Ministry of Education, to assign government-paid teachers to the school. He is also asking that the current volunteer teacher be officially hired and paid.
He stressed the need for quick action to return Maher Public School to its original grade six level so that local children can continue their education without hardship.
