CDC Youth Backs July 17 Protest Against Boakai Government

Monrovia, Liberia: The Youth League of the opposition CDC party has officially backed the upcoming July 17 “We the People” protest against the government of President Joseph Boakai.
The protest is being organized by STAND, a civil society group led by Mulbah K. Morlu, the former CDC Chairman. At a rally in West Point, Youth League Chairman Emmanuel Johnson said the country is facing growing hardship, corruption, and suffering under the Unity Party-led government.
“People are hungry and dying while government officials are stealing, and President Boakai only suspends them to protect his image,” Johnson said.
He listed several reasons for joining the protest, including:
• High youth unemployment
• Police brutality
• Rising sexual violence
• Poor healthcare and living conditions
• Corruption and bad governance
Johnson called on Liberians, especially young people, students, women, and workers, to join the protest peacefully.
He warned that the youth will not stay silent as the country falls apart and said the protest is not about politics, but about standing up for ordinary Liberians.
STAND leader Morlu said the protest will be peaceful and urged the police not to harass citizens. Organizers plan to hold the protest in several counties across the country.
For many, the protest will be a public judgment on President Boakai’s first six months in office.
