Ademola Lookman Inspires Nigeria's to a 2-0 Victory over Cameroon in AFCON Round of Sixteen Clash

On Saturday evening in Abidjan the Super Eagles of Nigeria emerged victorious against the indomitable Lions of Cameroon with a deserving 2-0 win during the Total Energies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d'Ivoire 2023 Round of Sixteen clash at the Felix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

Cameroon started with a promise as Zambo Anguissa set up Karl Toko Ekambi, but William Ekong blocked the striker's shot early on. Nigeria seemed to take an early lead in the nine minutes when Lookman's corner found Ajayi, but VAR disallowed the goal for offside.

The breakthrough for the Super Eagles came in the 36th minute when Victor Osimhen capitalized on a defensive error, setting up Lookman, who calmly finished past the Cameroon goalkeeper.

With the introduction of Cameroon Captain Vincent Abubaker there were hope that the former AL Nsar stroker could turn the table around but a well composed Nigeria attack found Lookman who sealed the victory just before full time, converting his own through ball to make it 2-0.

The win moved Nigeria into the quarter-finals, where they will face Angola, while Cameroon bows out of the competition.
The clinical performance showcased Nigeria's quality and experience, raising hopes of ending their longstanding quest for a fourth continental title in the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON.

The Super Eagles will need to defeat Angola on Friday, February 2, in order to grab a semi-final ticket.
