Rule of Law Caucus Denounces Vandalism of Speaker’s Office, Demands Accountability

Monrovia, Liberia – On a day meant for national unity and reflection, chaos erupted at the Capitol as Representative Kolleh, leading a group of individuals, unlawfully stormed the premises, vandalized the Speaker’s office, and desecrated it—all in an attempt to evict him without legal authority.

The Rule of Law Caucus has strongly condemned this brazen act, describing it as a direct threat to Liberia’s stability and the principles of democracy. The incident occurred while Liberians were observing Armed Forces Day and welcoming the Head of State of Sierra Leone, adding to the gravity of the situation.

In response, the Caucus has called on President Joseph Boakai to take immediate action against what they describe as a reckless and dangerous assault on the rule of law. They also urged the Minister of Justice to ensure that those responsible are held accountable, warning that such lawlessness sets a dangerous precedent for the country’s governance.

"Their reckless conduct suggests that they may have received assurances that they can act with impunity. However, there is no precedent in the history of our democracy for such lawlessness, and it must not be tolerated," the statement read.

The Rule of Law Caucus has further called on national and international stakeholders including the Cabinet, the international community, the Religious Council, the Council of Churches, and the Muslim Council to intervene and demand an immediate end to these acts of violence.

Finally, the Caucus announced its intent to pursue legal action against Representative Kolleh, ensuring that he faces the full weight of the law for his actions.

"The rule of law must prevail," the statement concluded.
