Sen. Momo Cyrus Pledges Justice and Security Enhancement in Liberian Senate

In the wake of his recent induction into the Liberian Senate, Senator Momo Cyrus, who succeeded Steve Zargo of Lofa County, assured citizens that justice will prevail without mysterious disappearances under the Unity Party's administration.

Senator Cyrus, the Chief Executive Officer of Liberia’s premier private security agency, the Security Expert Guard Agency of Liberia (SEGAL), emerged victorious in the October 10, 2023 Lofa County senatorial election, defeating Liberty Party’s Steve Zargo.

Addressing the plenary of the Liberian Senate, Senator Cyrus, a seasoned private security expert with 32 years of experience, expressed his commitment to enhancing public safety. He highlighted the need to leverage his security intelligence to contribute to the Senate's efforts.

In his role as the Senate Committee Chair on Security, Veteran Affairs, and Intelligence, Cyrus emphasized President-elect Joseph Boakai's commitment to pursuing and bringing perpetrators of various crimes to justice through thorough investigations and sentencing.

“We will make sure that no one will go missing under the Unity party led government”.

However, Senator Cyrus underscored the importance of logistical and financial support from the 55th National Legislature to boost the vibrancy of the security sector, particularly the Liberia National Police. He noted that the efficiency and effectiveness of the police force are compromised without adequate support and timely salary payments.

Citing the detrimental impact of low monthly income and salary delays, Senator Cyrus raised concerns about the encouragement of corruption within the security sector. He emphasized that without proper support, the police cannot be expected to perform effectively, asserting that security is the first line of defense and essential for the functioning of democratic institutions like the Senate.

“I visited the police station and I see that we need to empower the police making sure that their salaries come on time”.

Senator Cyrus concluded by stating, "In the absence of national security, even the senators would not be sitting in plenary freely." His remarks underline the crucial role security plays in sustaining the democratic process.
