PUL Jumpstart Preparation in Commemoration of World Press Freedom Day

Monrovia, Liberia: The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has announced that the 2025 commemoration of World Press Freedom Day will be observed on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

The Union has also announced that in preparation for the celebrations, T-shirts and caps are now available for purchase and collection at the PUL Headquarters on Clay Street, Monrovia.

The PUL encourages all journalists and PUL members to visit the headquarters to acquire the T-shirts for USD 5 or its Liberian dollar equivalent and caps for 500 Liberian dollars.

This year’s World Press Freedom Day focuses on the domestic theme, “Sustaining Independent Journalism and Press Freedom in the Digital Age.”

A panel of experts is expected to address this critical topic during the event.

According to a press release signed by journalist Festus Poquie, chairman of the PUL Expert Working Committee on World Press Freedom Day Celebrations 2025, the day’s activities will commence with a parade featuring journalists, PUL members, and invited dignitaries marching from the PUL Headquarters to the Monrovia City Hall.

Following the parade, an indoor program will be held at the City Hall, culminating in sporting activities at the Saye Town sports pitch.

“The Union encourages journalists and PUL members outside Montserrado County to participate in the celebrations. T-shirts and caps can be purchased and collected through designated PUL representatives in each county,” the release stated.
