Breaking News: FIA Fines Lonestar Cell MTN L$25 Million for AML/CFT Violations

Monrovia, Liberia: The Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) has imposed a fine of 25 million Liberian Dollars on Lonestar Cell MTN for serious compliance failures.

A letter obtained by Talk Show With Clarence Jackson, dated April 28, 2025, and addressed to Abubakar Ahalidu, Acting General Manager of Lonestar Cell MTN Mobile Money, outlines the violations and corresponding penalties.

According to the FIA, the telecommunications company failed to meet key Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) requirements, as mandated by the AML/CFT Act of 2021.

The letter states that Lonestar Cell MTN must deposit the full amount of the fine into the Central Bank of Liberia’s Transitory Account, in accordance with national regulations.
