Boakai's Officials Appear Before Majority Bloc Amid Tensions

Two senior officials from President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration appeared before the Majority Bloc today, November 12, 2024, following a summons. Despite Speaker Koffah's directive that none of President Boakai’s officials should appear before the Majority Bloc, Internal Affairs Minister Francis Sakila Nyumalin, Transport Minister Sirleaf Tyler, and Mo Ali, Managing Director of the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), were present to address issues raised by the bloc.

The Majority Bloc had earlier summoned Minister Nyumalin and Mo Ali for questioning, with both scheduled to appear today at 10:00 AM. Minister Nyumalin is expected to speak on the implementation of the Local Government Law.

The Majority Bloc has also launched an investigation into six lawmakers from the Speaker’s camp, accusing them of obstructing proceedings in the House on October 22. The individuals under investigation include Frank Saah Foko, Marvin Cole, Luther Collins, Edward Flomo, and two others. These lawmakers are set to appear before a full committee for further inquiry.

This series of events comes amid significant unrest, with protests growing over an ongoing attempt to remove Speaker J. Fonati Koffah.
