Global Methodist Church Explodes Lying About Ganta Hospita Attack

Nimba County: The Global Methodist Church of Liberia (GMC) has exploded with anger over what it describes as a deliberate lie and smear campaign by the United Methodist Church (UMC), accusing the UMC of fabricating claims that GMC members vandalized the Ganta Hospital during recent tensions at the Ganta Mission Station.

In a strongly worded press release issued Thursday, Alfred Mensah, official spokesperson of the GMC, slammed the leadership of the UMC especially Bishop Samuel Quire for “recklessly misleading the public” without evidence or legal backing.

“Bishop Quire went on air and lied to the Liberian people that we vandalized a hospital that now legally belongs to us,” Mensah said. “There is absolutely no hospital report, no police complaint, and no arrest to support such a dangerous and false claim.”

The GMC argued that the hospital in question was part of properties formerly owned by the Gompa District Conference of the UMC which, through a legal process, withdrew and joined the GMC. A competent court has since ruled that the entire Ganta Mission Station, including the hospital, school, and church, now belongs to the Global Methodist Church.

Mensah asked, “Why would we vandalize a property that the court has declared as ours, and which we were celebrating peacefully? It’s an insult to reason and clearly a political attempt to mislead the public and seek sympathy.”

The GMC further warned the UMC to stop using the media as a weapon of misinformation and instead return to the courts if they are dissatisfied with the legal outcome. “We respect the law. We expect the same from them,” Mensah emphasized.

The GMC also announced its official convening conference will be held in Ganta from July 7 to 13, 2025, as part of what it describes as “a historic spiritual rebirth and legal milestone” that will not be interrupted by what Mensah called “toxic lies from a desperate institution.”

The spokesperson urged all members of the Mount Nimba District of the GMC to remain peaceful and avoid confrontations of any kind with members of the United Methodist Church, despite what he called "continued provocation."

Mensah ended the statement by reaffirming the GMC’s commitment to making disciples of Jesus Christ and spreading scriptural holiness across Liberia and beyond. “We will not be shaken by lies. We are focused on truth, faith, and mission,” he declared.
