“Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Warns of Growing Threat to Liberia’s Democracy”

Monrovia Liberia: Former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has made a bold statement, accusing Liberia’s security forces, legislature, and Supreme Court of weakening the country’s democracy and public trust.

Speaking at the Summit for Democracy and Political Accountability, Sirleaf raised alarm about the recent conflicts between the country’s security agencies. A public argument between officers from the Liberia National Police and the Armed Forces of Liberia has raised concerns about the security forces’ ability to protect citizens. Sirleaf described this division as not only embarrassing but also dangerous for the country.

These divisions within our security agencies are not just embarrassing, they are dangerous,” she said, emphasizing that the primary role of these agencies is to keep the public safe—something that is not happening right now.

Sirleaf didn’t stop there. She also pointed fingers at the legislature and Supreme Court, saying they have failed to address important issues that are threatening Liberia’s democracy. According to her, this inaction is making things worse and destabilizing the country.

Her comments have sparked an intense debate across Liberia. Many are now questioning whether the country’s leaders can fix these internal problems and restore trust in the nation’s institutions. As the situation continues to unfold, Sirleaf’s call for reform and accountability grows louder, leaving many to wonder what the future holds for Liberia’s democracy.
