“I Want to Connect UL to Other Universities Across the U.S.’ – Maparyan After Months of U.S. Engagements”

Capitol Hill, Monrovia: The President of the University of Liberia Dr. Layli Maparyan, has reiterated her commitment to fostering engagement as the main aspect of her administration.

Addressing a press conference at her first official press engagement held at the university Capitol Hill campus  Dr. Maparyan outlined her accomplishments in February 2025. She highlighted engagements with international universities and the UL Alumni Association in America focusing on strengthening partnerships for the institution advancement. Adding that she also kicked off the Lux FM President’s Hour a platform she believes is crucial for open dialogue within the university.

Dr. Maparyan also announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with various institutions aligning with the government ARREST agenda particularly in the area of tourism. She emphasized the need to enhance the university cooperate partnerships in tourism and establish a dedicated hospitality management program.

Addressing the instructional challenges she acknowledged concerns over the impact of USAID shutdown on certain UL units and had discussions with the World Bank Country Director regarding the university fisheries program.

Dr. Maparyan reaffirmed her commitment to campus tours and town hall meetings stressing that her administration is dedicated to improving the quality of education and guiding students towards constructive dialogue rather than protests.

She also confirmed that starting August 2025, UL will implement a trimester system she maintained that the add and drop feature on the university e-Portal will not be reinstated because students have been given long time for registration and the manual processes still available. She assured that the university will establish clear guidelines and remain straight on decisions despite student protests.

Dr. Maparyan concluded by affirming her dedication to creating an environment where students remain focused on their academic journey while engaging in productive discussions with the administration.
