GoL reaffirmed Commitment to Good Governance, Security, and Accountability

Monrovia, Liberia: Deputy Information Minister for Press and Public Affairs Daniel Otis Sando has reiterated the Government of Liberia commitment to good governance, which includes transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to the rule of law.

Speaking during the Thursday, March 6, 2025 edition of the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press, Deputy Minister Sando revealed that the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) is finalizing its review of public officials’ asset declarations following the suspension of 4,507 government employees who had failed to comply with the asset declaration timeframe.

According to the Deputy MICAT Boss, the updated list of officials who have submitted their declarations will be sent to the Ministry of State for further action for President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s final input.

Additionally, the Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Task Force, chaired by Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin, has been given an extended mandate to continue tracking and reclaiming state-owned properties and funds wrongfully acquired by past and present officials.

The extension of the asset recovery and property retrieval taskforce mandate comes on the heels of President Boakai's renewal of Executive Order No. 145, underscoring the Boakai-Koung administration’s strong stance against corruption.

At the same time, Deputy Minister Sando has announced that the Government of Liberia is standing firm on maintaining the no-go zones areas for commercial motorcyclists.

According to him, the move is aimed at enhancing road safety with the primary goal of curbing crime. He added that the Liberia National Police is in discussions with the motorcycle union to address concerns regarding impounded motorbikes and operational challenges.

The Deputy Minister also mentioned that the December 18, 2024, arson attack on the Capitol Building remains a key subject of investigation.

He referenced an independent report from fire marshals from the United States of America, which confirmed LNP and the Liberia National Fire Service's (LNFS) initial findings that the fire was deliberately set.

Regarding concerns over Liberia’s representation at the ECOWAS Parliament, Minister Sando reiterated that the House of Representatives followed due process in replacing certain delegates.

He emphasized that as a sovereign nation, Liberia reserves the right to determine its representatives, urging ECOWAS to uphold democratic protocol at the regional parliament.
