Outgoing Pres. Nomination Sparks Debate

Monrovia- Following the early retirement of associate justice Joseph Nagbe, outgoing Liberian President George Weah has immediately nominated Justice Minister Counselor Frank Musa Dean to replace him on the Supreme Court’s bench.

His decision is backed by supreme law provided by Article 68 of the 1986 Constitution, It states that "The Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court shall, with the consent of the Senate, be appointed and commissioned e45ommissioned by the President; provided that any person appointed shall be:

(a) A citizen of Liberia and of good moral character; and

(b) A counselor of the Supreme Court Bar who has practiced for at least 5 years.

Despite Justice Minister and Attorney General Counsel Frank Musa Dean’s exceptional legal credentials, his nomination that was made by the Liberian leader a week ago have met mis-reactions from political pundits, many of whom are saying; the president’s nomination is mainly intended to cover up for all of the unexplained deaths of auditors and other citizens during his six year tenure as head of state and keep them close to power.

Some say, Weah nomination is also intended to create an income avenue for some of his outgoing officials to serve in the incoming Unity Party administration.

Does Weah nomination Really have undertone?
