President Boakai Calls on Diaspora Liberians to Lead the Charge in Transforming Liberia's Future

Monrovia, Liberia :In a heartfelt address marking the conclusion of another visit during the festive Christmas and New Year season, Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai expressed his deep appreciation for the commitment of the Liberian diaspora to the country’s growth and prosperity.

President Boakai was speaking at a gathering of Liberians who returned home as part of the Government's Annual Year of Return program. The event, held at the president’s home in the Rehab Community, brought together many in the diaspora to engage in meaningful discussions about the future of Liberia.

“The energy, passion, and commitment I have witnessed from you over the past weeks have been truly inspiring,” said president Boakai, noting that the diaspora’s unwavering love for Liberia is crucial to the nation’s progress. “Your dedication is a testament to the fact that Liberia’s journey to prosperity continues with hope. Together, we can build the Liberia we all aspire to see a nation of prosperity, peace, and progress for all.”

The president also reflected on the powerful bond between Liberia and its people around the world, urging those present to embrace bold participation in the development of the country. “We need your expertise, your investments, your resources, and your ideas. The talents you possess—gained through your experiences in the diaspora—are exactly what we need to help transform Liberia’s future.”

He assured the diaspora that Liberia remains open for business and secure, highlighting efforts made by the government to improve the environment for investment, infrastructure, and security. “Under my leadership, we have worked tirelessly to create an environment where safety, stability, and peace prevail,” he said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting investments and  trust.

President Boakai called on the diaspora to think beyond remittances and investments, urging them to focus on the long-term vision for Liberia’s future. “Let us think about making our country the beacon of hope for which it was founded. We owe it to the youth, the children, and the unborn to ensure they live in a country where opportunities abound.”

He mentioned the upcoming Liberian Diaspora Conference, which will be held in Washington, D.C. in April. This conference will serve as a platform for critical discussions about Liberia’s future, with a particular focus on including African Americans, who share a historical connection with Liberia.

President Boakai concluded his speech by expressing gratitude for the continued support from the diaspora in the form of remittances, which have played a significant role in the livelihoods of many Liberians. He urged the diaspora to remain hopeful and committed to Liberia’s progress, noting that every contribution, whether large or small, is shaping the country’s future.

“Your actions now will have an immeasurable impact on the future of this nation. We need you. Liberia needs you,” the president said, encouraging the diaspora to continue their efforts in building a Liberia that works for all.

As a final note, the president humorously remarked, “I am sure the palm butter, fufu, torborgee, and bitter leaf you tasted here was more delicious than the ones in the diasporait was organic.”
