Several Government’s Functionaries to Face Legislative Inquiry

Monrovia, Liberia: The Plenary of the House of Representatives has summoned the Ministers of Finance, Justice, Public Works, the Public Procurement Concession Commission (PPCC), and the National Road Fund (NRF) to appear before the full body to provide updates and clarity on a $100 million investment loan implemented by East International Road Construction Company.
Plenary reached the decision Tuesday, February 18, 2025, during its 9th day sitting in the 1st quarter of the second session after a communication from Representative Dorwohn Twain Gleekia of Nimba County District 6, requesting his colleagues to invite relevant authorities to give comprehensive information on the loan provided to EAST International for the construction of the ELWA-RIA Highway.
In his letter, Representative Gleekia asserted that it is prudent that the members of the august body be furnished with all necessary details of the loan because it will be repaid by the Liberian taxpayers.
In the interest of transparency and accountability, the Nimba Lawmaker wants information on the total amount received so far from the US$100 million loan, the amount that has been utilized for road construction to date, and a copy of the official bank statement of the loan account for verification and financial clarity.
“Given the significance of this project to national development, it is crucial that the legislature remain informed about its financial progress and execution.
I trust that your office will facilitate the timely provision of this information to ensure proper oversight and public accountability," said Representative Gleekia.
Following the reading and floor discussion, the House Plenary agreed through a motion that the Ministries of Finance, Justice, Public Works, PPCC, and NRF appear next Tuesday, 25 Feb, to provide details information on the status of the $100 million loan taken on behalf of East International Construction Company by the government of Liberia for the ELWA-RIA Highway road construction.
