Supporters in High Gear As All- African Games Hit Its Second Week to Climax

Liberia: As Africans from across the continent assembled in Accra,  Ghana, for this edition of the All-Africa games, supporters of participating countries were on the edges of their  respective sites as the competition hits it second week in what pundits described as eyes checking show down.

The tournament is taking place in three separate venues, namely: Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast.

The competition is expected to climax on March 24th but Ghana, which is hosting the 13th edition of the competition, is ranked 16th as well as shone in several disciplines, collecting some thirty medals thus far, including gold, silvers and bronze.

51 countries are participating in the competition, with over 5,000 athletes battling it out to win medals.

The African Games were first held in 1965, in Brazzaville, Congo, and consisted of contests in athletic sports exclusively.

 Attempts to hold such African games date back to the 1920s, and in the early 1960s “friendship” games were held, but only among formerly French-governed countries.

The African Games is one of Africa’s largest and widest-ranging sporting events. Athletes from across the continent compete in various disciplines, ranging from chess and scrabble to athletics and wrestling. This year’s Games have been named Accra2023, and here’s what you need to know.

Four thousand (4000) elite athletes from fifty-five African countries are completing in the event.

The sport gathering is featuring twenty-nine sports disciplines attracting alomst the entire World to the West African nation (Ghana) as the host Country.

Egypt is presently leading in the medal tally with one hundred fifty-six thousand nine hundred and one (156, 91) of which are gold and they're followed closely by Nigeria and South Africa second and third respectively.
