Was former President Weah Denied Entry at PYJ’s Funeral As Speculated In the Public?

Ganta Nimba County:There have been several reports claiming that former President George Weah was denied entry to the funeral service of the late Senator Prince Johnson of Nimba County. However, these reports do not reflect the full story.

While there is some speculation that former President Weah and his team were barred from entering, the facts present a different picture. Former President Weah and his team arrived at the LPRC substation, where the funeral service was being held. At this location, the Execution Protection Service (EPS) had a set protocol: all vehicles were required to use the first gate, while the President and Vice President were allowed to use a second, designated gate.

Upon arrival, former President Weah and his security team requested to use the gate reserved for the President and Vice President. However, EPS guards insisted that they follow the protocol and use the first gate, as directed. In response, the former President and his team, including Representative Yekeh Kolubah, were prevented from using the second gate.

Some citizens from Nimba, who were gathered outside the funeral service, perceived the situation differently. They began shouting, “No Weah, No Funeral,” believing the EPS had deliberately stopped the former President from entering.

Former President Weah Disrespect Protocol

After delivering his tribute, former President Weah left the service promptly. He approached the widow of the late Senator Johnson, offered his respects, and then proceeded to his vehicle. A few journalists briefly stopped him for comments before he entered his car.

His exit was noted by some as a breach of protocol, especially as it appeared disrespectful to the sitting President.

In summary, former President Weah was not denied entry to the funeral. The situation arose from a misunderstanding about the established security protocol.
