Capitol Hill, Monrovia: The 55th Legislature has officially endorsed the General Auditing Commission (GAC)'s audit reports on twelve government institutions, marking a significant step in the nation’s ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability.

This endorsement followed a thorough review and validation by the Joint Committee on Public Accounts, Expenditure and Audit. The decision was made during the 13th Day Sitting of the 2nd Quarter of the 2nd Session of the 55th Legislature, held on Thursday, June 26, 2025.

According to a statement from the House Press and Public Affairs Bureau, the audits covered various public institutions and development projects, with a focus on compliance and financial reporting.

Institutions the audits covered include: the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC): Compliance audit for the period ending June 30, 2021.

CLSG-Rural Electrification Project: Financial statement audit covering June 30, 2021, to December 31, 2022. This project spans Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea.

Liberia Opportunities Industrialization Center (LOIC): Compliance audit for the fiscal years ending June 30, 2019, through July 31, 2021.

River Sand Mining Activities: Regulatory compliance review for the period July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2021.

The endorsement is seen as a reaffirmation of the Legislature’s role in strengthening financial oversight and ensuring that public institutions operate within the bounds of the law. Lawmakers emphasized that the GAC’s work plays a pivotal role in promoting good governance and efficient public service delivery.

The House’s action also sets the stage for further legislative scrutiny and possible corrective measures based on the findings in the audit reports.
