Representative Goshua Demands Swift Action on Iron Ore Tailing Project, Rejects Steel Fort Mining Deal

Grand Bassa County: Representative Thomas Goshua of Electoral District Five has called for immediate intervention on the controversy surrounding the Iron Ore Tailing project, warning that delays are costing the county much-needed job opportunities.

Representative Goshua said, “There’s no more time for the fights,” as he emphasized the need for urgent steps to address unemployment in the region.

The Grand Bassa District Five Lawmaker, known for his bold and outspoken leadership style, called on the Bassa Legislative Caucus to prioritize the lifting of the iron ore tailings, a project that has long been entangled in political disputes amidst growing concerns from community dwellers.

Representative Goshua is of the conviction that the project could serve as a key solution to Grand Bassa's struggling economy if managed properly in the interest of the county.

In a related account, the lawmaker has strongly opposed the involvement of Steel-Fort Mining PVT Limited, the company currently seeking to execute the project.

Representative Goshua's stance against Steel-Fort stems from his belief that the company lacks the proper legal and technical qualifications required to effectively manage the sensitive tailing operations safely and responsibly.

“We can’t risk our people’s future with an unqualified company,” while revealing that Steel-Fort has entered the bidding process.

In support of transparency and citizen engagement, Representative Goshua praised Grand Bassa Superintendent Karyou Johnson for initiating a community consultative forum that allowed citizens to voice their views on the project.

According to the Lawmaker, such inclusive decision-making is crucial for building trust and ensuring that the project reflects the people's interests.

“The Superintendent has already called a citizen meeting, and it’s time for us in the caucus to act swiftly and approve this contract,” Goshua said while urging the Grand Bassa Legislative Caucus to stand with the people and endorse the new company's proposal without unnecessary delay.

Representative Goshua emphasized that consensus among local stakeholders has already been reached, adding that the communities whom the project intends to impact have expressed support for the new bidder.

“We, the Caucus members, must align ourselves with the people’s wishes for the growth of Grand Bassa,” he said, underscoring the urgency for the caucus to give the green light for immediate implementation.

As time runs out and economic pressure mounts, Representative Goshua remains firm in his commitment to delivering jobs and economic growth to his constituents. He called on all parties—government, private sector, and civil society—to put aside differences and work together for the prosperity of Grand Bassa County.
