Defendant Johnson Faces Prospection of Murder Charge at Monrovia City Court
Monrovia Liberia: The Liberia National Police has charged 39-year-old defendant Amos Johnson with murder and forwarded him to the Monrovia City Court to face prosecution.
On December 25, 2024, the defendant Amos Johnson was arrested by the Liberia National Police for allegedly killing his father on grounds of reportedly refusing to give him a Christmas money.
According to the Police charge sheet issued on Thursday, January 2, 2025 the 39-year-old was charged with murder for criminally and intentionally hitting his father, Eli Johnson, on his head with a stone that resulted in his death in the Bassa Town Community, in Paynesville.
The Police investigation found that the suspect was always in the constant practice of harassing and threatening his late father of eliminating him whenever refused to do his wish.
It further revealed that the 39-year-old was observed with blood and scratches on his hands after reportedly committing the act which he was later accused by his sisters of murdering their biological father.
However, defendant Amos Johnson is facing prospection at the Monrovia City Court on a murder charge as forwarded by the Liberia National Police to face penalty.
In recent times, citizens have raised concerns surrounding the growing rate of mob violence and alleged murder cases recorded by the Liberia National Police. In another alleged murder case, the Liberia National Police recently forwarded a 38-year-old man identified as Bill Jallah to court with multiple crimes including murder, for reportedly stabbing a lady, Princess Zuo, to death, whom he said to have a love affairs with.
Coupled with this, the police have also announced the arrest and ongoing investigation of four persons for stoning two unidentified men to death for allegedly attempting to steal a motorbike. The incident is said to have happened late December 2024 at the 72nd Junction in Paynesville.
Meanwhile, the Liberia Police Inspector General, Gregory Coleman has condemned the recent wave of mob violence and murder cases by unlawful citizens. The Police IG said the acts are against the principles of justice and human rights in the country.
He vowed to ensure that unlawful citizens are engaged in alleged murder and mob violence face the full weight of the law. "These heinous acts of violence are totally unacceptable. The Liberia National Police, we condemned these actions and we can assure the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice", he stated in a recent press conference.
His statement comes at the time Liberians are calling for justice for victims who were recently reported to be murdered by alleged suspects.
