Second Division Jubilee Football Club Challenges LFA Relegation Action

Monrovia, Liberia: Through a written protest to the Appeal Board of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), Second Division League Jubilee Football Club has challenged the LFA’s decision to relegate the club to the third division.

Jubilee FC's appeal action had stemmed from LFA action, which was announced on Monday, April 14, 2025, informing the Second Division football club about its relegation to the Third Division League for regulatory violations in the local football league.

K-NEWS Sports Desk has gathered that LFA’s decision is based on Jubilee’s continued refusal to settle its fine obligation in the amount of US$10,000.

This medium also gathered the fine that was imposed on Jubilee FC for submitting a fraudulent business registration document, which is one of the basic requirements for participation in the league during the commencement of the 2024-2025 football season.

"In alignment with the LFA Book of Sanctions and in light of these ongoing violations, it is with regret that we inform you that Jubilee FC is hereby relegated from its current division," excerpt from LFA statement announcing the imposition of the relegation action against Jubilee FC.

However, barely five hours after LFA released the statement, Jubilee FC filed a formal appeal with the Appeal Board of the football governing body, calling for the immediate reversal of the decision.

Jubilee FC President James Nimene has accused the LFA of not affording the club due process prior to announcing its decision, describing the local football governing body as unfair.

In a statement issued hours after LFA’s decision, Jubilee claimed that it had already arranged a payment plan for the imposed fine of US$10,000.

According to Nimene, Jubilee's decision to settle its financial obligation with a payment plan clearly depicts the club's genuine intent to uphold football integrity.

"Jubilee FC wishes to inform the public, our supporters, and the broader football community that we categorically reject the decision as procedurally unfair and legally untenable."

We have already formally filed an appeal to the LFA Appeals Board, and we are confident that the facts and legal principles will support a reversal of this action," Jubilee FC stated.

As it stands, Jubilee FC's relegation to the Third Division League serves as a major blow for the Church boys, who fought to secure a promotion slot to the First Division in the ongoing 2024-2025 Second Division football season.

As the club hopes to get a favorable outcome from its appeal process, it remains in a dilemma as to whether or not it is relegated to the Third Division and forfeits its slot for promotion to the First Division by next season.

Sports pundits believe the imposed relegation, if not reversed, will also leave the club in despair of returning to the top-flight league since its elimination in the 2022-2023 seasons.
