LEC Outgoing CEO Outlines Measures for Stable Electricity Supply During Dry Season

With just two days left in his tenure, the outgoing Chief Executive Officer of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), Monie Raphael Captan, has announced strategic measures to ensure a stable electricity supply during the dry season.

Speaking at a press conference, Captan revealed that the corporation has procured and reserved 1.62 million gallons of heavy fuel oil to power its thermal generators at the LEC Bushrod facility.

“The total value of the fuel stock is approximately five million United States dollars,” Captan said.

However, he cautioned that the current stock would not last the entire dry season. “This will require additional supplementation to sustain operations,” he added.

In a related development, Captan disclosed that the Government of Liberia owes the electricity provider over $18.9 million.

“We are engaging the Ministries of Finance and Mines & Energy, but the debt remains unsettled,” he stated.

The outgoing CEO emphasized that resolving the government’s outstanding energy bill would greatly enhance LEC’s ability to operate effectively.

“If this debt is paid, it would significantly improve our capacity to provide reliable electricity to the public,” Captan concluded.

As LEC prepares for the challenges of the dry season, the measures outlined highlight both progress and ongoing concerns about financial stability and energy supply.
