Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission Unveils Indictments for Misappropriating Healthcare Donor Funds"

Monrovia-The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has launched an investigation in the indictment of twelve individuals by the Grand Jury of Margibi County during its February Term of A.D. 2024.

The indictments encompass charges such as Economic Sabotage, Theft of Property, Tempering with Public Records, Criminal Felicitation, and Criminal Conspiracy, all stemming from financial irregularities within the Margibi County Health Team (MCHT). These irregularities involve the diversion of US$188,978.86 from a USAID-funded project intended to enhance healthcare services in Margibi County.

Among the indicted individuals are officials from the Margibi County Health Team, along with other implicated parties. As of March 8th, 2024, two defendants, Leroy Dorwarzia and William Johnson, have been apprehended and served with indictments, with efforts ongoing to serve the remaining individuals.

The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission reiterates its steadfast commitment to combatting corruption and upholding accountability at all societal levels. Corruption corrodes the foundations of justice, fairness, and effective governance, and the LACC remains resolute in its pursuit of justice.

The Commission extends its appreciation to law enforcement, the judiciary, and investigative teams for their collaborative efforts in bringing forth these indictments. As the legal process unfolds, the LACC emphasizes its dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability for those who seek personal gain at the expense of public trust.

Gratitude is also extended to the public and the media for their continued interest and support in the fight against corruption and the promotion of justice.

Established by an Act of Legislature on August 28, 2008, and subsequently amended and re-established in July 22, 2022, the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) is mandated to investigate and prosecute acts of corruption, while also educating the public about the detrimental effects of corruption and the benefits of its eradication.
