Nimba, Grand Gedeh Booked Quarter-finals Spots as Grand Kru Football Team Bid Early Exit from National County Meet

Liberia: Nimba County Football and Kickball teams have qualified in advance to the quarter-finals of the ongoing National County Sports Meet.
The Mount Nimba boy and girls displayed an impressive performance in their group stage by collecting significant points which paved their way to town in advance of the quarter-finals that is set to take place at the famous Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports in Paynesville.
Nimba County paired in a three team zone, Group D, managed to collect two consecutive wins in the kickball category, defeating group hosts Grand Cape Mount County 3-1 in her opening encounter and 6-1 against River Gee in her final group stage match on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
The girls ascended at the top of Group D qualifying with 6 points. On the other hand, the boys of Nimba County settled to a favorable goalless draw against the reigning champions River Gee County on Wednesday at the Momo Taweh Sports, in Roberts Sports GrandCape Mount County to collect four points from two games.
The draw however propelled the six-time champions for the next stage of the 2024-2025 National County Sports Meet following their initial 2-1 win against Grand Cape Mount County on Sunday. The quarter-finals are expected to get under way after the conclusion of the preliminary round matches are taking place in Bong, Grand Cape Mount, Sinoe and Grand Gedeh Counties.
However, jubilation has begun to fail Zwedru City as Grand Gedeh boys secured their spot in line with Nimba County to progress to the quarter-final of the tournament. The Grand Gedeh boys defeated Grand Kru and Montserrado 2-1 in separate matches to find their way to the next.
On the flip side, Grand Kru County Football team has been eliminated from the ongoing National County Sports Meet after losing two straight group stage matches.
The boys of Grand Kru lost 2-1 to Grand Gedeh in their opening fixture and thereafter suffered a 1-0 defeat to Margibi County on Wednesday, January 15, in Zwedru. The the doubled defeats led the Grand Kru County Football to bid an early exit from the competition despite having a game in hand to climax the group stage rounds in Group B.
The 2024-2025 National County Sports Meet is witnessing exciting matches among the fifteenth counties from the group stage rounds which began on Sunday, January 12, and is expected to closed for up on Saturday, January 18, to prepare for the Quarter, Semi and Grand finals at the SKD.
The National County Sports Meet is the most celebrated sporting festival in Liberia that brings citizens from different tribal backgrounds and unity them through sports.
