”DG Fahngon Doesn’t Mean Well for LBS’ – Workers Union Slams Abusive Leadership”

Paynesville Liberia: The ongoing crisis at the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) has reached a boiling point, with the Workers Union delivering a scathing indictment of Director General Eugene L. Fahngon.
In a bold move, the union has given Fahngon a 72-hour ultimatum to address the growing dissatisfaction among employees or face the prospect of a no-confidence vote.
This warning is far from it signals deep-rooted issues within the institution, largely attributed to Fahngon’s increasingly autocratic and oppressive leadership style.
The charges against Fahngon are not only serious but paint a picture of a man who appears more intent on consolidating power than on fostering a healthy, productive work environment.
The Workers Union, led by Joseph Sayon, has described Fahngon’s leadership as abusive, manipulative, and dysfunctional. His reign, according to Sayon, has subjected employees to what can only be described as labor abuse, creating a toxic and hostile atmosphere at the state-owned media house.
Rather than addressing workers’ legitimate grievances, Fahngon seems focused on consolidating his own personal wealth and power. The union pointed out the striking contrast between Fahngon’s actions and the suffering of the staff: while the Director General allegedly doubled his weekly allowance from $750 to $1,500, he simultaneously stripped employees of basic benefits. Not only did Fahngon suspend worker allowances, but he also ramped up the use of threats, intimidation, and arbitrary firings.
The Workers union claim they are now in a constant state of fear, with the threat of dismissal hanging over their heads like a sword of Damocles.
Fahngon’s management style has reportedly been marked by a consistent pattern of verbal abuse and harassment.
The workers feel that the Director General operates with a total disregard for their dignity and well-being. His leadership, instead of fostering collaboration and respect, has turned into an exercise in unilateral decision-making and control. The recent dismissal of Mr. Peter Clinton, a long-time employee of the Operations Department, is seen as another example of Fahngon’s arbitrary and illegal actions that only further deepen the mistrust between management and staff.
Workers at the State Broadcaster have given Director General Eugene L. Fahngon a 72-hour ultimatum to address their concerns.
During a press conference held at the LBS compound, the president of the Workers Union, Mr. Joseph Sayon, stated that Fahngon is exploiting staff members by threatening them with dismissal on a daily basis, claiming that he has close relationships with both the President and the Information Minister.
Additionally, the workers alleged that Fahngon has increased his weekly allowances from $750 to $1,500.
The Workers Union also expressed concerns about Fahngon's poor administrative policies, noting that staff members have been suffering from illnesses. They even described the death of one of their members as psychologically distressing and attributed it to Fahngon's management style.
According to the Workers Union, Far from improving conditions for the employees, Fahngon’s tenure has subjected them to a relentless series of psychological tortures, harassment, and threats of dismissal, with no meaningful effort to address their needs.
The workers’ refusal to accept his narrative reflects a broader disillusionment with his ability to lead in any constructive way.
In the face of such overwhelming criticism, one must question whether Eugene Fahngon is truly capable of leading LBS in a way that serves both the institution and its employees. His leadership has not only failed to address systemic issues within the media house but appears to have exacerbated them.
As the union threatens a vote of no confidence, Fahngon must reckon with the possibility that his autocratic style, self-serving actions, and disregard for workers’ rights may have irrevocably damaged his credibility and the morale of those under his command.
