MDR Urges NEC to Investigate Alleged Election Law Violations by Nimba Senate Candidates

Monrovia, Liberia: The Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) has formally petitioned the National Elections Commission (NEC) to launch an investigation into potential violations of Liberia’s election laws by two candidates vying for the Nimba County senatorial seat.

The MDR claims that Mr. Tee Wonokay-Farngalo, one of the candidates, may have violated electoral regulations by previously registering and contesting in Montserrado County’s District #3 during the 2023 General and Presidential Elections. The party argues that this raises serious legal concerns about his eligibility to run for another elective position in Nimba County.

In addition to Mr. Wonokay-Farngalo’s alleged infraction, the MDR has also accused Madam Edith L. Gongloe-Weh, the other candidate, of potentially violating election laws. According to the MDR’s petition, Madam Gongloe-Weh may have registered to vote through a proxy, specifically her sister, which, if confirmed, would breach voter registration regulations.

The petition comes as both candidates prepare for the upcoming by-election in Nimba County, prompting calls for a swift and thorough investigation by the NEC to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
