Regime of Power Plays, Cover-Ups, and Political Manipulations', Eugene Nagbe Blasts Government

MONROVIA, LIBERIA (April 1, 2025): Lenn Eugene Nagbe, Former Maritime Boss and Chief of Staff to former President George Weah, has on Monday launched a relentless attack on the Boakai-Koung Administration, accusing the Executive of orchestrating a political coup within the House of Representatives, facilitating arson at the Capitol, and diverting public attention with extravagant spending on luxury vehicles while ordinary Liberians struggle to survive.

"At a time when Liberians are struggling with hunger, homelessness, and school fees, the President chose to buy a $1.2 million car", the former Maritime Boss asserted.

According to him, the unfolding crisis is not just about legislative power; it is an indictment of an administration that appears more focused on political maneuvers than national development.

Beyond the legislative crisis, the Boakai-Koung Administration finds itself dragged in another public outcry over the procurement of high-end, bulletproof Lexus SUVs for the presidency at a staggering cost of $1.2 million each amid economy hardship.

The Ex-Presidential Office Boss' allegations on the OK Morning Rush reveal that the administration is indulging in extravagant spending that defies the harsh realities of the country’s financial state, and is deploying state resources to cement control over the House of Representatives.

Eugene Nagbe, exposing what he described as a deliberate conspiracy to sideline the embattled Speaker Koffa, claimed that the current regime defied the Supreme Court’s initial ruling against the majority bloc, led by Representative Richard Koon, and asserted that Speaker Koffa is being unlawfully targeted with direct presidential interference.

"The Supreme Court ruled that the actions of the so-called majority bloc, led by Representative Koon, were ultra vires meaning completely without legal backing, yet, the Boakai administration ignored it.” Ex-President Weah Office Chief categorically stated.

Adding to the already heated debate is the December 18, 2024 mysterious arson attack at the Capitol building, which the Former President Office Staff Chief suggests was no coincidence but a calculated move linked to the legislative takeover.

"They forcibly entered the Speaker's office, kicked his belongings out, and then conveniently the Capitol building was burned," he argued.

The Ex-Presidential Office Boss points fingers at Nimba County Representative Samuel Kogar, claiming that he made a call from the premises just before the fire broke out. Further raising suspicions, key evidence, including the Speaker’s chair, was reportedly removed before the attack.

On the same day at 11 o’clock, Representative Samuel Kogar made a phone call from inside the Capitol building. He was the only lawmaker present at the time of the fire, yet no one questioned him," Nagbe emphasized.

As Liberians struggle under the weight of a crumbling economy, with skyrocketed food prices, collapsing businesses, and unpaid salaries, the Boakai administration’s priorities have come under scrutiny, not just for its power struggle in the House of Representatives, but also for its questionable financial decisions.

Historical patterns suggest that Liberia has been down this road before. Past administrations have similarly exploited institutional weaknesses to consolidate power, often to the detriment of national stability.
