Monrovia Capitol Hill Descends into Chaos as Lawmakers Clash Over Budget.

Monrovia, Liberia – A shocking scene unfolded on Capitol Hill on Monday as members of the Liberian House of Representatives engaged in a violent brawl over the review of the 2025 National Budget.

The confrontation erupted when officials from the Executive Branch arrived to participate in a budget review session called by the Majority Bloc.

Pro-Koffa lawmakers, who felt excluded from the process, resisted the hearing, leading to heated arguments that quickly escalated into physical violence.

Eyewitnesses reported lawmakers shoving, shouting, and exchanging blows, creating a chaotic atmosphere within the legislative chamber.

The situation further deteriorated when police officers, called in by the Majority Bloc, intervened, allegedly using excessive force against Pro-Koffa lawmakers.

Embattled Speaker Koffa condemned the Executive Branch for its involvement in the conflict, accusing it of exacerbating tensions by openly supporting one faction over another. He argued that this action disregards the Supreme Court's ruling on the leadership dispute and undermines the integrity of the House.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and raised serious questions about the ability of the legislature to function effectively. Political analysts fear that the ongoing political turmoil could have negative consequences for the country's development and stability.
