Nobel Peace Prize Winner Leymah Gbowee Endorses Liberia’s Bid for Non-Permanent Seat on UN Security Council
Liberian Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Leymah Gbowee, has expressed her full support for the government of Liberia’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
In a statement, Gbowee highlighted the UN's significant role in ending Liberia’s conflict in 2003, adding that a seat on the Security Council would allow the country to contribute further to global peace and conflict resolution efforts.
“I am honored to support the government of Liberia in their bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. The United Nations played a pivotal role in abating the conflict in Liberia in 2003. A non-permanent seat on the Security Council will allow Liberia to continue making contributions to the legacy of peace and conflict resolution that our nation and citizens have worked tirelessly to cultivate,” said Gbowee.
Liberia’s pursuit of this position is seen as a move to strengthen its role on the global stage, particularly in peacebuilding and international diplomacy.
