Senator McGill Reacts to Amin Modad's Resignation, Calls for Continued Investigation

Margibi County Senator Nathaniel McGill has responded to the resignation of former Commerce Minister Amin Modad, stating that while Modad’s resignation is a necessary first step, it is insufficient to address the larger issues at hand.

According to McGill, the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) violated the law by instructing Medtech to purchase the controversial $45,000 vehicle, emphasizing that the investigation must continue.

"The Liberian Senate, in its report on Medtech, identified this as a gross violation of the agreement," McGill noted, adding that the Senate recommended the General Auditing Commission (GAC) to conduct a full audit to determine how much Medtech spent on behalf of the government and ensure repayment.

McGill further criticized the LRA for authorizing the unlawful transaction despite being aware of the breach.

He asserted that both Modad and the LRA are equally guilty, stressing the need for accountability to prevent further violations.

"This situation is not just about Amin’s resignation," McGill stated. "It’s about upholding transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. If those principles are not enforced, public trust will continue to erode."
