Three Dead; Following Tree Fall in Duogee Forest By: Z. Benjamin Keibah
G. Gedeh County: A fatal accident in the Duogee Town forest has resulted in the deaths of three Burkinabe nationals, with one survivor. The incident occurred when a large dead tree fell on their hut, tragically cutting short the lives of the cocoa farmers.
The victims—Sawadog Mohammed Desire, age 34; Yameogo Oliver, age 25; and Tiono Ouibila, age 25—had traveled from Burkina Faso to Liberia for cocoa farming. The incident occurred due to their unsafe forest clearing practices, where they only cut tree roots and burned the trunks, leaving the trees unstable.
A 15-member jury investigation concluded that the fatalities were directly caused by the falling tree. The Liberia National Police, alongside Administrative Officer Hon. Madison Neewray, has authorized the release of the bodies to the families for burial.
Currently, the Toe City Police Detachment is conducting an investigation into the incident. Landowners Othello Bah, Eddie Wacho, and Milton Taye are being questioned as part of the inquiry.
