Dismissed Assistant Director Claims Unfair Treatment: Plans Legal Action against Liberia Land Authority for Wrongful Dismissal
MONROVIA, LIBERIA: Steve Kennedy, the dismissed Assistant Director for Public Land Vetting at the Liberia Land Authority (LLA), has announced his intention to pursue legal action following what he describes as an “unfair and politically influenced dismissal.”
Kennedy and four senior officials of the Land Authority were dismissed on Friday, October 31, 2025. He emphasized that he did nothing wrong and revealed that his legal team is taking every necessary step to ensure justice is served.
He asserts that his employment was terminated without due process, claiming that LLA’s decision was a deliberate effort to damage his professional reputation and undermine his years of dedicated public service.
The LLA has dismissed Kennedy and three of his colleagues for misapplication, misconduct, insubordination, and administrative malpractice.
LLA's internal investigation revealed serious misapplication, misconduct, insubordination, and administrative malpractice, all of which represent significant violations of Civil Service rules, professional ethics, and the Authority's internal policies.
However, the former Assistant Director stated he was accused of administrative malpractice, but claimed that the allegations were baseless and argued he was never given a chance to address them.
Kennedy stated that he has never met his accusers and was not informed of any specific charges, calling the dismissal action a gross violation of due process and fairness under the Civil Service Code.
He argued that the termination of his employment, along with that of three other employees, occurred suddenly and without warning.
Kennedy asserted that there was no internal investigation or evidence to support the accusations against them. He expressed confidence that seeking legal remedy in a court of competent jurisdiction would reveal what he described as “procedural abuse and a reputational attack.”
Nevertheless, the Liberia Land Authority has justified its decision by stating that the dismissals resulted from an administrative investigation conducted in accordance with Chapter 4.2.3 of the Standing Orders of the Civil Service Agency.
