Tweh Hits Ex-President Weah: "Stop Playing, Start Delivering"

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: Liberian politician Thomas Nimene Tweh has dragged former President George Weah over his continued involvement in charity matches, stating that funfairs without impactful developmental initiatives could hamper any re-election plan of the ex-President.

Tweh's critique came after ex-President Weah was captured honoring a funfair football match at his residence in commemoration of his son, Timothy Weah's 26th birthday on Sunday, February 22, 2026, when his political rival, incumbent President Joseph Boakai, struck a groundbreaking news.

It follows the arrival of 137 pieces of earth-moving equipment, "Yellow Machines", at the Freeport of Monrovia, a major promise fulfilled by President Boakai to boost road connectivity and the construction of public infrastructure under his government's ARREST AGENDA.

Former President George Weah was defeated by incumbent President Joseph Boakai in the 2023 polls and has since been a critic of the current administration, with multiple reports suggesting his intent to seek re-election.

However, Thomas Nimene Tweh said the ex-Liberian President and one-time Ballon d'or Winner has spent enough time on the pitch, and shifting more attention to funfair matches does not pay in his opposition to the current administration.

Instead, he urged former President Weah to deliver tangible results in opposition ahead of the highly anticipated 2029 polls: "Former President Weah, while you are kicking football daily, your contender in the pending 2029 general elections is busy bringing in yellow earthmoving machines to pave the roads to the South East and other parts of Liberia".

Tweh added: "My humble advice to you, Mr. Former President and my Kru brother: you have used your foot for many decades. Now it is time to use your head and get things done. Liberia needs strategic thinking, serious involvement, and a renewed commitment to national progress".

In a social media post on Tuesday, February 24, the prominent politician reminded former President George Weah of the popular saying that elections are not won on elections day. According to him, the lives of ordinary citizens deserve improvement regardless of making an impact in opposition.

Meanwhile, he cautioned citizens to elect leaders based on impact and deliverables, not on popularity contests. The political figure's comment has sent a strong message across Liberia's political landscape about developmental politics ahead of the 2029 Presidential and Legislative elections.
